08.07.2024: UK Music Chief Executive Tom Kiehl has welcomed the appointment of Lisa Nandy as Culture Secretary, which he said would provide “further momentum behind the new government’s ambitious plans for  music and culture”.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer promoted the Wigan MP to the role as Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport on Friday 5 July after Labour’s Shadow Culture Secretary Thangam Debbonaire lost her Bristol Central seat in the General Election.

Welcoming the appointment, UK Music Chief Executive Tom Kiehl said:

“Lisa Nandy’s appointment as the new Culture Secretary is fantastic news and provides further momentum behind the new government’s ambitious plans for music and culture.

“UK Music has worked with Lisa previously, including collaborating on a successful event on music talent development at the Old Courts in her Wigan constituency.

“Her commitment to music means she is ideally placed to help UK Music and its members tackle the opportunities and challenges that the music industry faces, and contribute to sustained growth for our sector.”

In 2018, Lisa Nandy joined a UK Music event in her Wigan constituency to discuss ways of helping young people embark on a career in the music industry.
