Music plays a huge role in the cultural identities and economic growth of the UK’s Devolved Nations. Recognising this contribution, UK Music launched manifestos in Scotland and Wales ahead of the Welsh Senedd and Scottish Parliament elections in May 2026. These were calls to action for politicians and prospective parliamentary candidates to support and protect the vitality and success of the Welsh and Scottish music sectors.

In Scotland, the manifesto made five key asks of the Scottish Government:

  • Develop a Scottish Music Growth Plan
  • Bring Down Barriers to Exporting Scottish Music
  • Guarantee High Quality Music Education for All
  • Ensure Artificial Intelligence Policy Supports Homegrown Creativity
  • Use Music to Drive Scottish Tourism

In Wales, UK Music made five key recommendations for boosting the country’s music industry:

  • Grow Welsh music through smart public investments
  • Bring down barriers to exporting Welsh music
  • Ensure music education is accessible to all
  • Ensure AI policy supports homegrown creativity
  • Use Music to drive Welsh tourism

Manifesto for Music – Northern Ireland

Looking ahead to the May 2027 Northern Ireland Assembly election, UK Music are currently developing a comprehensive music manifesto to influence the political landscape. We are currently consulting with those involved in the Northern Irish music industry and the wider sector to identify implementable policies that will support the sector’s growth, strengthen Northern Irish music’s international standing, and improve the talent pipeline. The manifesto is expected to be published in early 2027.
