UK Music acts as a direct conduit between the music industry and the Government, looking to influence policy so that it supports the interests of our world-leading music sector. We achieve this through running campaigns, meeting with parliamentarians, hosting events, and submitting evidence into Government consultations. Key areas of policy where our work has had a clear impact include the Government’s commitment to introduce a cap on ticket resale and the reversal of their plans to loosen AI copyright protections that would have damaged the creative industries.
UK Music currently has three policy priorities that inform much of our work at the moment. These are:
- Achieve a regulated AI music market for rightsholders and creators.
- Enhance music exports internationally.
- Deliver domestic economic growth for music.
UK Music also provides the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Music, which exists to provide a discussion forum between the music industry and parliamentarians. APPGs bring together Lords and MPs from across the party-political divide, acting as a point for dialogue amongst decision makers on issues of concern. With over 100 members, it is one of the largest APPGs in Parliament. We regularly brief APPG members on key issues ahead of debates and legislative milestones. The APPG on Music website can be found here.
