On their first UK tour of mainly universities and polys to plug a debut album released a month earlier, I saw a raw and unheard of Irish band taking their first steps to global stardom" UK Music Director of Communications, Vincent Moss. He go everyone to come closer to the stage and sit down on the floor and just chatted with us in-between songs. It felt very intimate." UK Music Communications Manager, Jennifer Geddes. Koko had only recently reopened after a fire had badly damaged the venue a few years before, and this was one of the first events I attended post-pandemic. The combination of these circumstances and some lively disco-inspired dance music made it a particularly memorable night, highlighting how much I missed these spaces when they were closed." UK Music Policy and Campaigns Officer Dougie Brown. In celebration of Independent Venue Week, at UK Music we have selected our favourite gigs of all time at independent venues.

UK Music Director of Research Andy Edwards. In celebration of independent venue week, at UK Music we have selected our favourite gigs of all time at independent venues.

It was the first time I went to the venue and I instantly fell in love with the high ceilings and tiered seating of the old cinema space. Plus the band had an inflatable sheep floating round the room - super memorable! UK Music Parliamentary and Research Manager, Hannah McLennan.
