16.11.2023: UK Music teamed up with Discover Creative Careers to share a lesson plan for teachers on careers in the music industry.

Developed by UK Music’s Director of Education and Skills Dr Oliver Morris, the aim of the lesson is to be able to discover music industry roles that students hadn’t heard of before and for them to be able to communicate the types of activities and skills these music industry roles contain.

This lesson is designed for secondary school students in years 7 – 13. Tasks can be adapted to suit different year groups. It’s designed to be 60 minutes, although it can be altered to be shorter.

The plan features a lesson planner, presentation slides and videos. There are also links to other music industry careers resources online that students might want to explore.

The lesson plan was developed as part of a Focus in Music event that was hosted by Discover Creative Careers and chaired by Dr Oliver Morris. The event featured AWAL’s International Product Manager Bre McDermott-King, Rare musician and composer Chloe Kwok and music producer Dylan Barber.

They shared insight into the types of roles that underpin this globally renowned sector and understand how people get into them, with advice on vocational pathways including internships.
