BIMM is proud to be lead education partner for the second year running with The Great Escape – one of the biggest music festivals in Europe – which runs from Thursday 19 – Saturday 21 May.
The Great Escape is the festival for new music, showcasing 450 emerging artists from all over the world in over 30 walkable venues across the city – welcoming around 3,000 professionals and 15,000 music fans.
BIMM has created a programme of events across the three days of this festival in Brighton and Hove, including The BIMM Student Sessions in Partnership with UK Music. This series of events will strengthen the invaluable link between music industry professionals and BIMM students. There will also be live music from BIMM artists, who'll be performing at BIMM's Alternative Escape gig (see more details of the running order below).
Special guests and speakers, as part of the TGE/BIMM programme of events, include: The Maccabees' Felix White, keynote speaker Tony Wadsworth CBE; plus Phil Nelson, Martin Elbourne, Russell Warby and Mark Davyd. As Tony Wadsworth enthused:
“Brighton is a vibrant music city with a great live scene, and BIMM and The Great Escape are two of its best home-grown inventions. The Student Sessions enable BIMM students and industry delegates to mix, discuss and debate all things music. I’m sure it will be a learning opportunity for all parties!”
The TGE/BIMM partnership enables BIMM to continue to put live music and education at the heart of its festival role. As BIMM Executive Principal, Vaseema Hamilton sums up:
“We greatly value our close working relationship with UK Music through the Music Academic Partnership (MAP), and I’m delighted that it has led to such an exciting collaborative research project based on a subject so close to my heart! We look forward to partnering for our BIMM Student Sessions at The Great Escape on Friday 20 May and getting to see many of our industry friends at our BIMM Social at the Queens Hotel later the same day.”
