10.11.2020: UK Music Chief Executive Jamie Njoku-Goodwin has welcomed “hugely promising” news about a new vaccine against Covid-19.
The move comes after it was revealed on Monday that early results from the world’s first effective Covid-19 vaccine showed that it could prevent more than 90% of people catching the virus.
Pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech have developed the vaccine which is one of 11 that are in the final stages of testing.
UK Music Chief Executive Jamie Njoku-Goodwin said:
“While these are interim results, and they still need to be peer-reviewed, they are hugely promising.
“It is especially encouraging to the music industry, which is desperate to get back up on its feet and start delivering for the UK again, and to the thousands of self-employed freelancers who have struggled through this pandemic.
“As an industry with often long lead times, we need certainty to prepare for when we can bounce back – and the sooner that comes, the better for our industry and for our country.
“It is still early days, but we hope that this is the light at the end of the tunnel that we all want to see.”
