15.10.2024: UK Music attended international music conference Beyond the Music in Manchester.
The conference on October 9-11 saw speeches by Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy.
UK Music Director of Research and Analysis Andy Edwards moderated a panel discussing “The New Economic Frontier: Building The New Music Industry Paradigm”.
Panellists included Annabella Coldrick of the MMF (Music Managers Forum), Sophie Jones of the BPI (British Phonographic Industry), Erinch Sahan of Doughnut Economics (joining by video), Sarah Wilson FCIM of TuneCore, and Ben Wynter of POWER UP, Association of Independent Music (AIM), Grace Blakeley economist and author, Dan Chalmers of YouTube, ,
The panel focused on how the dynamics of the music industry have shifted as a consequence of new technology, and what this means for all those in the value chain, which produced an entertaining and informative debate.
UK Music Director of Education & Skills Dr Oliver Morris attended the Beyond the Music Inspire careers conference running in parallel with the industry conference.
Oliver met many attendees and other organisations over the course of the conference discussing careers in the industry and sharing tips on next steps. He joined UK Music members PPL, PRS for Music, and The Musicians’ Union to present an introduction to all organisations and how we support the industry.
He also attended a Music Academic Partnership (MAP) member Access Creative College (ACC) showcase at New Century Hall.
The conference now in its second year provided an interesting and lively programme and we look forward to 2025.
