11/07/17: Today, UK Music welcomed votes on the value gap in the European Parliament's CULT and ITRE committees on the proposed Directive on Copyright in Digital Single Market.

Both committee opinions recognised the problems caused by the value gap between some online services and the music industry, as well as the need for legal clarity in this area.

Commenting on the votes, UK Music CEO Michael Dugher said –

“The existence of the value gap distorts the online music market, significantly reducing the value of music online, to the detriment of the UK's music industry. That this is acknowledged by the CULT and ITRE committees is welcome.”

“UK Music will carefully analyse the opinions of the CULT and ITRE committees and encourage both the UK Government and other EU institutions to ensure this issue is addressed when considering the Directive.”
