28/11/17: UK Music hosted a roundtable breakfast for UK Music Members with House of Commons Exiting the European Union Select Committee Chair, Hilary Benn MP.
The Committee was set up last year after the EU referendum and scrutinises the work of the Department for Exiting the European Union and related issues.
The Committee is currently undertaking inquiries into the progress of the UK’s negotiations on EU withdrawal and the European Union (Withdrawal Bill).
The Committee is also involved in a dialogue with the Government concerning the disclosure of a number of reports being produced by the Department for Exiting the European Union on the impact of Brexit on industries like music.
Issues discussed at the breakfast included UK Music CEO Michael Dugher’s call for a transitional arrangement to be agreed by the end of the year to avoid a Brexit cliff-edge scenario, industry concerns around losing freedom of movement of people, future trading relationships and the current protections afforded by the EU copyright acquis that support UK music industry businesses.
The breakfast is the second in a series of meetings between the UK Music Board and Select Committee Chairs, following a lunch with BEIS Select Committee Chair Rachel Reeves MP in October.
Future meetings are planned with Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Chair Damian Collins MP and International Trade Chair Angus MacNeil MP. Back to news
