16.01.2015: High Court Judge Mr Justice Ouseley has granted The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), The Musicians’ Union (MU) and UK Music permission to pursue a judicial review of Government’s decision to introduce a private copying exception without fair compensation deeming that the Claimants have an arguable case against the Government.

Mr Justice Ouseley also agreed with the Claimants that the substantive hearing of the Judicial Review should be expedited and heard before the end of May 2015.

BASCA, MU and UK Music are challenging the UK Government’s decision not to provide fair compensation to songwriters, composers and musicians, which is in contravention of EU law.
