Music at the University of Hertfordshire is vibrant, and their students are successful with 95% of them working or undertaking further study six months after graduating.

With guidance from top industry personnel, students can shape their future in the music industry. Their tutors have extensive professional experience and teach with enthusiasm and commitment on their cutting-edge courses which include songwriting, music for film and games, audio recording and production, sound design, composing with technology and music industry management.

Students can take advantage of top of the range recording studios, including a Solid State Logic AWS 900+ mixing desk with Quested and JBL (5.1 surround sound) monitoring, a wide selection of hardware outboard gear (Drawmer, Toft Audio, Lexicon etc.) and a range of software plug-ins including Waves, Vienna Instruments and Native Instruments.

The new music teaching space is designed with live performance in mind. This area is perfect for learning about all aspects of performing and live events, from the perspective of the performer and behind the scenes technical roles. The space includes stage, PA system, holdback monitors, stage lighting rig and projector making it feel more like a venue than a lecture theatre. Students also have access to the Focusrite Rednet dedicated audio network to send and receive high-quality, real time audio streams to editing and control rooms across our Film, Music & Media Building.

There will be many opportunities in a variety of venues around the University, such as the Art and Design Gallery and the Forum Attic.  Open Days, music industry events, student ‘Jam Jar’ gigs and other festival events allow students to showcase their work in public.  In addition, students will be able to develop working relationships with other disciplines within the School of Creative Arts.
