14.09.2026: UK Music’s Workforce Diversity Survey tracks progress to help shape a more inclusive, fairer and vibrant music industry.
The survey, led by UK Music and its Diversity Taskforce, focuses on all those who work behind the scenes in the industry.
It collates data from freelancers, employed professionals, business owners and educators across the music industry.
Launched in 2016, the survey aims to help tear down the barriers holding back diverse talent and ensure people from every background can enjoy a rewarding career among the 220,000 employed in the UK music industry.
The findings of the survey give UK Music, industry leaders and other stakeholders insights into where improvements are needed when it comes to diversity and inclusion – and highlights where positive changes are already working.
The survey takes place every two years and UK Music will publish the results in 2027. To get the most accurate picture of the diversity of the industry we need as many people as possible to complete the survey.
UK Music Head of Diversity Eunice Obianagha said: “This year marks a decade since UK Music started running our Diversity Workforce Survey to map progress on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (EDI) in the music industry.
“Guided by the UK Music Diversity Taskforce – which features representatives from across the industry – this survey helps us understand and tackle the barriers facing some of the diverse talents in our sector.
“We need to hear from people right across the music industry workforce in our efforts to build a music scene where everyone feels welcome and that they belong in our world-leading music industry.
“It is only by gathering perspectives from as many people as possible from that we can help drive further improvements.
“The survey does ask questions on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, neurodiversity, caring responsibilities, religion and age. We recognise that these are sensitive matters and we really value you trusting UK Music with this information which helps us shape improvements in the music industry.
“Please take a few minutes to fill in the survey and ensure that your voice is heard and that you can play a part in making positive change happen.”
