10/5/2018: UK Music CEO Michael Dugher today welcomed a new ring-fenced fund of £1.5 million for grassroots music venues.
Reacting to the announcement of cash from Arts Council England, Mr Dugher said:
“The extra funding announced for music venues is fantastic news. UK Music has been at the forefront of the campaign to secure urgently needed extra cash for grassroots music venues.
“We are delighted that Arts Council England has listened to UK Music along with Music Venue Trust, community campaigners and MPs from across the political spectrum about the importance of popular music and grassroots venues.
“We saw how MPs on the Digital, Culture Media and Sport Select Committee have heard our message loud and clear in their report in March which echoed many of our recommendations about the support our venues need.
“These extra funds will help secure a vital part of the music industry’s ecosystem and help nurture our talent pipeline.
“Grassroots music venues still face huge challenges, but this new cash will help many of them continue to play their part in the live music industry which contributes around £1 billion a year to the UK economy. “
