14.05.2024: UK Music’s Director of Education and Skills Dr Oliver Morris joined the action at FOCUS Wales for industry talks, networking and to see some of the best new acts around.

FOCUS Wales is a vibrant and friendly music industry conference held in Wrexham on May 8-10 with a fantastic line-up of gigs showcasing the best of what Wales – and the rest of the world – has to offer.

There were a number of insightful industry panels and the ‘mixers’ were a fantastic way to network with fellow delegates. The breadth of international partners was truly inspirational. Oliver attended mixers included:  British Council International Delegate, Power Up, Music Export Ukraine, Music Venue Trust, and M for Montreal.

Oliver also attended a number of outstanding gigs including Rodney Branigan from the USA who played multiple guitars at the same time – even juggling them during one song!

The visit also gave us an opportunity to chat with organisations such as Generator, Unconference, Future Yard, MVT etc. and also to explore international topics with individuals such as Natasha Beckman, British Council Director Aotearoa New Zealand and Pacific, and Anca Lupes President of RAW Music and Founder Mastering the Music Business from Romania.

The conference is a real highlight in the calendar and we’re looking forward to 2025 already!
