Double Digit Growth: FAC Joins UK Music

The FAC will become UK Music’s 10th member joining industry trade-bodies BPI, AIM and MPA, the two collection societies PPL and PRS for Music and the creators’ representatives the Music Producers Guild, the Music Managers Forum, BASCA and the Musicians Union.

High Court Judge Mr Justice Ouseley has granted The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), The Musicians’ Union (MU) and UK Music permission to pursue a judicial review.

UK Music supports Venues Day

Gathering representatives from 120 venues across the UK with a cross-section of delegates from arts and music this one-off day will consider and develop policies to let British venues flourish. Venues represented include Dingwalls, The Windmill, The Leadmill and The Kazimier.

Skills and Schools: Didcot

Government Facing Judicial Review Challenge Over Failure To Compensate in Private Copying Exception

The Musicians’ Union (MU), The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) and UK Music have launched an application for Judicial Review of the Government’s introduction of a private copying exception without providing fair compensation for songwriters, musicians and other rights holders within the creative sector. The MU, BASCA and UK Music welcome the purpose of the new measures, namely to enable consumers to make a copy of their legally acquired music.

UK Music calls time on unpaid internships

UK Music has joined forces with Intern Aware, to launch an Internship Code of Practice for music companies and young people. The code will help employers understand their role and duty when hiring an intern, and importantly show them their responsibilities in terms of pay and tenure. The guide also provides potential interns with information about what they can expect when joining a music company, to safeguard them against poor quality and unpaid positions.

Women in Music Awards 2014

UK Music has partnered with Music Week, the Association of Independent Music and Nordoff Robbins for the first Women in Music Awards. The ceremony, hosted by Alice Levine, will take place at the Royal Garden Hotel, in Kensington.
