UK Music’s Music Industry Day at New River Studios Tottenham - 10th March

UK Music hosted a Music Industry Careers Day at New River Studios with a special introduction from David Lammy, Labour Member of Parliament for Tottenham, on Friday 10th March. The event, which took place during National Apprenticeship Week, gave the music industry a chance to highlight the positive impacts of apprenticeships on routes to employment, young people and employers. It also aimed to highlight the numerous career paths and opportunities available within the sector through a series of industry talks and workshops.

David Lammy MP introduced the day with Oliver Morris, director of education and skills at UK Music and Jane Button, Principal, National College Creative Industries at the rehearsal space in North London which was set up by Beggars Group and UK Music in 2014. Nadine Shah, who is currently signed to 1965 Records, will discuss her route into the industry and host a further Q&A. A panel conversation with Teriy Keys chief executive from R.O.A.D Entertainment, Paddy McLean head of streaming at Polydor, Jessica McCarten director at music management company Cloud X, Florence Morris research and admin officer at the Musicians’ Union and freelance broadcaster Sef Kombo will each share their pearls of wisdom about working in the sector and highlight the variety of jobs available to young people. Further workshops will take place on artist management, live sound, radio, songwriting and music production. Training provider DiVA will share CV writing and interview tips, as well as apprenticeship opportunities with the attendees.
