On Friday 4th November UK Music hosted a ‘Skills and Schools’ event at Craigroyston Community High School in Edinburgh. The event informed pupils about the numerous career avenues available in the music industry through a series of educational talks and workshops from leading music industry professionals. Throughout these sessions pupils were given an invaluable insight into the worlds of songwriting, music production, music PR and the live sector.
Jo Dipple chief executive at UK Music discussed the value of music education in Scotland and highlighted the many opportunities available for young people in the industry during the morning assembly. DF Concerts booker Craig Johnston, Teriy Keys from Dizzee Rascal’s Dirtee Stank Records, international DJ and producer Ivan Hall Barrientos of Illyus & Barrientos, Jenn Nimmo-Smith owner at WeAreMaterial PR and singer-songwriter Cilla Raie discussed their roles and shared their top tips for working in the industry. UK Music hosted workshops giving pupils first-hand music production and songwriting experience.
