UK MUSIC: CREATIVE INDUSTRIES NEED COORDINATED POLICY-MAKING

DATE: 14 December 2010

As reported by Music Week, in a speech this morning (December 14th) to the Work Foundation, Shadow Culture Secretary Ivan Lewis called on Government to create a cross-government group to coordinate policy-making across the creative industries.

The speech was warmly welcomed by UK Music CEO Feargal Sharkey, who commented:

“In terms of music and the other creative industries, this country gives birth to the kind of talent that the rest of the world hungers for.

“With the Shadow Minister's statement, the BIS select committee suggesting a Creative Industries advisory board and the Business Secretary launching a ‘Growth Review’, momentum is clearly building for Government to help deliver on this country's potential.

“Perhaps now is the right moment to implement UK Music’s number one recommendation from Liberating Creativity – to establish a Creative Industries Cabinet Committee."
