Rehearsal Spaces

Rehearsal Spaces

UK Music, together with the DCMS has helped to create 14 pilot music rehearsal spaces for young people.

UK Music worked with DCMS on this innovative project helping to build the necessary partnerships in the music industry to enhance the success of the scheme.

DCMS spent £440,000 establishing 14 pilot music rehearsal spaces for young people in a range of urban and rural areas of England experiencing multiple deprivation.

The funds were used to provide instruments and equipment, and contributed towards the cost of necessary capital works, such as sound proofing. The vast majority of the spaces are located in local authority owned buildings – often existing community spaces.

This scheme underlines the Government’s commitment to support grass roots music development, and is an example of what can be achieved through public private partnership.  The spaces have been created in collaboration with local and regional government, youth music organisations, and the music industry. The Music Industries Association and its member companies have supported the scheme by providing cut price instruments and equipment.
